| Detailed Description |
3"x3" image of a giant snowball circa 1952.
It portrays a giant snowball approximately six feet high. It began as our family was building a snowman base at the top of the hill by our home, but it was so easy to keep it rolling that the we pushed all the way to the bottom. It was located on the Kingsep homestead 5 miles north of Eckville and was enabled by an early summer snowfall of about 6 inches deep. Seated on top of the snowball are my mother and sister. I'm standing beside it.
| Detailed History |
In the early fifties it was possible to have a wet snowfall during the summer months. Thunderstorms with clouds of damaging hail were common late summer occurrences. Most of the winters were cold with considerable snowfall. Spring thaws brought high river levels and flooding that cut of vehicle traffic to the north and south of Eckville.
